The Tasmanian barque Harriet McGregor moves up Storm Bay towards Hobart, at the conclusion of another fast passage from London. She was built on the Derwent River, on which Hobart stands, in 1871 by John McGregor for the firm of Alec and John McGregor.

She was built from local blue-gum and pine and was quite small – 331 tons. She sailed mainly on the London run with shorter passages to Mauritius. In spite of her size, she recorded consistently fast passages that compared favourably with those of much larger vessels on the same run, even though her hull speed was not high. This was a testimony to the skill of her master and the way she was sailed. Her fastest day’s run was 287 nautical miles.

She was bought by a Danish firm in 1896 and shortly afterwards was destroyed by fire at Rio de Janiero.
